Industrial Washdown and Steam Hoses (I-Series)

Purpose-Built Hoses for Cleaning and Sanitization

Ace Sanitary’s I-Series includes two industrial hoses developed specifically for facility cleaning and sanitization. The IWD Industrial Washdown Hose handles hot water, while the ISH Industrial Steam Hose is designed for steam service. Each hose has a distinct construction and operating range suited to its intended cleaning application.

I-Series hoses are not designed for sanitary product transfer, process instrumentation, or analytical systems. Selecting the correct model is essential because hot-water and steam applications create different temperature, pressure, material, and safety requirements.

IWD Industrial Washdown Hose

The IWD is an economical, high-quality hot-water hose intended for cleanup duties in dairies, creameries, breweries, and food, beverage, meat, and poultry processing plants. It helps sanitation teams direct hot water onto production equipment, work areas, and other surfaces requiring routine cleaning.

An extruded construction provides the handling and flexibility needed for repeated washdown work. The abrasion-resistant, non-marking white cover helps the hose withstand regular movement across facility floors while maintaining a clean appearance.

Key IWD specifications include:

  • 3/4-inch inside diameter
  • Black EPDM tube
  • White EPDM cover
  • Two synthetic textile spiral-cord reinforcements
  • Temperature range from -20°F to 200°F
  • Working pressure up to 300 PSI at the catalog’s rated conditions

The IWD is intended for hot-water washdown only. Facilities that require an FDA option should ask Ace Sanitary about the RWD hose and applicable fitting requirements.

ISH Industrial Steam Hose

The ISH is a rugged industrial steam hose used to clean and sanitize pumps, valves, tubing, and other equipment suitable for steam exposure. Its construction is engineered specifically for the elevated temperatures and pressures associated with steam service.

The hose features a black chlorobutyl tube, red EPDM cover, and steel-braid reinforcement. Its specially formulated tube and cover resist abrasion and blistering and are designed not to harden or crack during normal service.

Key ISH specifications include:

  • 3/4-inch inside diameter
  • Black chlorobutyl tube
  • Red EPDM cover
  • Steel-braid reinforcement
  • Temperature range from -40°F to 430°F
  • Steam pressure capability up to 250 PSI at the catalog’s rated conditions

Steam can cause severe injury or property damage if the wrong hose is selected or operating limits are exceeded. The ISH should be clearly identified as a steam hose and used only within its specified pressure and temperature ratings.

Cleaning Applications for the I-Series

I-Series hoses support dedicated cleaning and sanitization procedures in facilities that use hot water or steam to maintain hygienic operating conditions. Typical environments include:

  • Food and beverage processing plants
  • Dairy facilities and creameries
  • Breweries and distilleries
  • Meat and poultry processing plants
  • Other production facilities with hot-water or steam-cleaning requirements

The IWD supports general hot-water washdown of facility surfaces and processing areas. The ISH supports steam cleaning of compatible pumps, valves, tubing, and equipment. Neither model should be specified as a sanitary transfer hose.

Selection, Use, and Maintenance

Always match the hose to the cleaning medium. A hot-water washdown hose should not be substituted for a steam hose, and the ISH should only be used for steam applications within its published limits. Working pressure and temperature requirements should be reviewed together before ordering.

Steam hoses should not remain pressurized when they are not in use. Operators should avoid excessive bending near couplings and periodically inspect the hose for blisters, lumps, kinks, or other signs of damage. The hose should be drained after each use and stored properly rather than hung over hooks or left against hot metal surfaces.

Choose the Right I-Series Hose

Ace Sanitary can help facilities select the appropriate IWD or ISH configuration for their cleaning and sanitization requirements. Other sizes and colors may be available, and both products can be supplied without minimum order quantities.
