Assistant Controller

Full job description

Primary Functions:

  • Build a high performing accounting team by coaching and developing staff to ensure they are knowledgeable of best practices and deliver top notch results.
  • Develop short-term and long-term goals and objectives for the accounting department in consultation with management, and measure performance using key performance indicators (KPI’s).
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports.
  • Conduct variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast) and provide clear, insightful explanations to management.
  • Maintain the general ledger and journal entries.
  • Perform month, quarter and year end close on a timely basis.
  • Assist with treasury management and oversee bank accounts.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Ensure all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Recommend, develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process for the business unit, working closely with department heads to set realistic financial targets.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making, capital expenditure projects, and long-term business planning.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create and maintain internal controls and policies.
  • Research and identify solutions to discrepancies in financial records.
  • Manage audits, assist auditors and gather documentation as needed.
  • Champion safety, company culture and ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience, including experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job such as:
  • Safely navigating a manufacturing environment
  • Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs
  • Extended periods of sitting; occasional standing and walking
  • Using computer, phone and office equipment
